How to Take an Ice Bath What to do Before you Ice Bath

Let’s take a moment to appreciate that you are contemplating how to including something new and challenging in your life that you intend to perform every single day moving forward for the foreseeable. Ask yourself when was the last time you purchased a product that you use every single day only to become a cornerstone of your day. So let’s take the time now to ‘curate your ritual.’

Its important to visualize what your ritual is going to look like by asking yourself the following questions;
  • Do you intend to Submerge 7 days a week? Just Weekdays? Everyday but Sunday?
  • When is most convenient time to Submerge? Right when you wake up? Midmorning or the afternoon? (Late evening isn’t recommended)
  • What temperature are you currently challenging yourself with? If it’s your first time 57F (14C) is a good starting point.
    • This will determine when you schedule your Chiller to turn on and off each day so that your only responsibility will be sticking to your schedule.
  • How many minutes do you want to submerge for? Just starting out 2-3 minutes is a great plunge.
  • Do you want to wear clothing or be naked? (Fully nude recommended)
  • Are you worried about hygiene? We recommend rinsing your body thoroughly before getting in each time to keep the water extra clean.
    • You also want to net the water before you get in to remove anything floating on the top like loose hair from the previous day.
  • Do you want to listen to something in headphones or on a speaker? Music? Podcasts? Audio Book? A Meditation?
Everyone is a little hesitant when starting out so you should decide everything about the experience in advance and leave no excuses for avoiding it.

For example:
Everyday I wake up at 8am and I get in the Tub by 8:30am.
I only Submerge Monday to Friday because week-ends I sleep in.
I set my Chiller to turn on at 4am and off by 8:30am with the app.
Even though I don’t Submerge weekends I set the Chiller to turn on and off everyday the same just in case I choose to Submerge off schedule.
I set my ice bath up inside where I have total privacy so I don’t need a swimsuit and I have access to an ensuite where I rinse before getting in to maintain the longevity of the water.
I like to listen to a podcast in wireless headphones while I get going in the morning and keep listening as I get setup to Submerge.
Each morning everything is ready for me. I remove the lid to my Submerge Tub, net the water a few times, rinse down in the shower, and decide how many minutes I think I should challenge that day.

Knowing every step in advance is key to a long-term beneficial practice you look forward to performing each day.

PRO TIP
Prepare yourself psychologically by taking 5-10 big deep slow breaths in the shower or standing in front of the Tub to quiet and focus the mind. Get out of whatever previous headspace you were in, clear your mind of all thoughts, slow it all down, then cross the threshold.
